GoDaddy, a company known almost as much for its Super Bowl ads as its actual services, announced that it will be appearing in a spot during the Super Bowl yet again in 2015.
While typically, the company runs multiple ads during the big game, it will be running just a single 30-second spot this time around. This is, according to AdAge, because the company wants to leave room in the budget for international marketing.
GoDaddy has historically run racy ads with scantily-clad women, but more recent campaigns have relied more on humor. You may recall the Jean-Claude Van Damme ads, for example.
The coming Super Bowl spot is called Journey Home, and will feature “an adorable puppy”. It will be about “empowering business owners” to succeed online.”
While GoDaddy is not revealing it, there will be a twist. The company says not to expect a predictable commercial. One predictable element, however, will be the return of Danica Patrick, who will co-star alongside the puppy.
“We are taking an advertising tradition – a tried-and-true Super Bowl commercial convention – and turning it upside down,” said GoDaddy CMO Barb Rechterman. “People love cute, little puppies in Super Bowl commercials, right? The power of our next Super Bowl ad is how it pivots from what you think is a traditional ‘Hallmark’ style commercial into something unexpected, while highlighting how our products help a small business owner drive their business online.”
“I’m pretty sure this little GoDaddy puppy is going to steal the show,” said Patrick. “Our Super Bowl commercials have evolved over the years, and it’s been pretty cool to be a part of the transformation. I love this year’s surprise ending. I really don’t think people will see the punch line coming.”
This will be the eleventh-consecutive Super Bowl to include a GoDaddy ad.
